Question

Define the solubility of a solute.

Open in App
Solution

Solubility: The maximum amount of solute that can dissolve in a fixed amount of solvent at a given temperature is its solubility.

  • For example, if we add sugar to the water then the property which helps sugar molecules to dissolve is known as solubility.
  • We can also say that solubility is a property of a substance or solute to dissolve in a given solvent.
  • The solubility of a substance also depends on the chemical and physical properties of that substance.

Factors affecting the solubility:

  • Temperature, pressure, and the type of bond and forces between the particles are a few factors that can affect the solubility of substances.
  • For example, we can add more amount of sugar even to a well-saturated sugar water solution by heating it.
