1. Crop rotation is the process of changing the crops throughout the year so that the nutrition needs can be altered.
2. Every crop has certain specific nutrition needs, thereby rotating or changing crops can retain and help the soil replenish certain nutrients.
3. As the soi gets an opportunity to replenish its nutrient pool, the crops get a better supply of nutrition, and hence the yield increase is significant when compared to a land where the same crop is grown throughout.
4. Crops like wheat and legumes are cultivated alternatively for higher yields.
5. The wheat crop needs more nitrogen and that nitrogen can be replenished in a natural process by growing legumes after wheat.
6. The legumes have Rhizobium a bacterium that is found within the root nodules.
7. They can fix the atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia in the soil and increase the soil nitrogen content.
