Solution

Hi,

The following turn of events characterized the era of 1990s and the onset of coalition on the horizon of the politics in India:

  • India entered into the age of Coalition Politics in the 1990s.
  • The Indian National Congress was once the single largest national party.
  • The period of 1970s was the period of emergency rule after which there was emergence of Janata Party and the break up of Congress into factions.
  • Regional Parties also sprang up . They maneuvered the state level politics.
  • When Atal Bihari Vajpayee could not stabilise his position a third front formed the Government headed by Mr. H. D. Deve Gowda.
  • Third front party was a group of regional parties and Non-Congress and Non-BJP .

This marked the emergence of the role of Coalition in India.

After 1990 the era of coalition goverment began. Now the central government had more than one ruling political party which meant no rivalries and discrimination. This led to a new culture of power sharing and respect for the autonomy of state governments.
