  • Most of the literature during the period was composed in Bengali.
  • Bankim Chandra Chatterjee wrote ‘Anand Math’, which is the source of our national song ‘Vande Mataram’.
  • Munshi Premchand wrote in Urdu and Hindi. ‘Godan’ and ‘Rangbhoomi’ are some of his popular novels.
  • Some of the popular short story writers of the period included Rabindranath Tagore, Premchand, Yashpal, Jatindra Kumar, and Krishan Chander​.
