Solution

(i) In laboratory, reaction of sulphite with dilute sulphuric acid gives sulphur dioxide as:
SO23(aq)+2H+(aq)H2O(l)+SO2(g)
(ii) Cu turnnings are heated with conc. sulfuric acid.
Cu+2H2SO4(conc.)heatCuSO4+SO2+2H2O
Reaction with potassium permanganate: decolorization of pink permanganate solution.
5SO2+2MnO4+2H2O5SO24+4H++2Mn2+
Reaction with limewater- occurs in boiling solution
SO2+Ca(OH)2CaSO3+H2O
