Solution
(i) In laboratory, reaction of sulphite with dilute sulphuric acid gives sulphur dioxide as:
SO2−3(aq)+2H+(aq)→H2O(l)+SO2(g)
(ii) Cu turnnings are heated with conc. sulfuric acid. Cu+2H2SO4(conc.)heat−−→CuSO4+SO2+2H2O
Reaction with potassium permanganate: decolorization of pink permanganate solution.
5SO2+2MnO−4+2H2O→5SO2−4+4H++2Mn2+
Reaction with limewater- occurs in boiling solution
