The kings were given the title Ko during the Sangam age and the kingship was passed from one generation to another.
The kingship was usually passed to the eldest son of the king. The eldest prince who was to be crowned was called Komahan while the younger prince was called Ilango.
The coronation ceremony was called Mudisoottuvila or Arasukattilerudhal.
The king used to settle disputes in his court which was called Naalavai.
