The first National Education Policy was introduced in India in 1968. The policy aimed to inculcate a sense of common citizenship, strengthen national integration, and promote national progress.
The Government of India introduced a New Education Policy in 1986. The objective of the new policy was to provide equal opportunities to the marginalised sections.
The New Education Policy emphasised providing scholarships, adult education, and open universities.
Operation Blackboard was initiated, and a child-centred approach was adopted in primary education across the country.
The New Education Policy was revised in 1992 which emphasised the formulation of a National Curriculum Framework.
The policy also planned to bring improvement in facilities and uniformity in the evaluation system at the secondary stage.
