The Non-Alignment Policy was a foreign policy adopted by nations that didn’t want to align with the USSR or the USA during the Cold War.
These nations wanted to maintain their distance with both the blocs and came to be known as ‘Non-Aligned Nations’.
The Non-Aligned Movement was formed under the leadership of India’s First Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
The movement received support from Indonesia’s First President, Sukarno; Egypt’s Second President, Gamal Abdel Nasser; Ghana’s First President, Kwame Nkrumah; and Yugoslavia’s President, Josip Broz Tito.
The Non-Aligned Movement was formally established in 1961 in Belgrade.
