Thyroid gland performs the secretion of its hormones under the influence of the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) of the pituitary gland. It releases three hormones as the triiodothyronine (T3), the tetraiodothyronine (T4) or thyroxine and the calcitonin. Thyroid gland secretes around 80% of T4 and 20% of T3. These hormone regulate the basic metabolic activities of the body such as breathing, body weight, heart rate, menstrual cycle, body temperature, sugar and cholesterol level, processing of food in intestines. Calcitonin regulates the level of calcium in blood by decreasing it whenever present in higher amounts.
