It was started by Shankeracharya in 9th century.
It continued upto 16th century.
Hindu devotees, preachers and religious reformers played a key role in it's spread.
It strengthened unquestionable faith and utter devotion to God.
Rig Veda Samhita, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Chhandyoga Upanishad, Katha and Kausitaki Upanishad has mentioned about about the devotion of Bhakti.
