Differentiate between cell wall and cell membrane.
Cell wall:
Cell wall is a tough and protective outer membrane of plant cells.
Cell membrane:
Cell membrane is a phospholipid bilayer that covers the cytoplasm of the cell.
Cell wall | Cell membrane |
1.The tough and outermost covering of plant cells is known as cell wall. | 1. The Phospholipids bilayer which covers the cytoplasm of cells is known as cell membrane. |
2.It is present only in plant cells and bacteria. | 2. It is present in both plant and animal cells. |
3. Cell wall is rigid because it is made up of a tough polysaccharide called cellulose. | 3 Cell membrane is semifluid and flexible in nature |
4.It is protective in function. | 4. Cell membrane is concerned with the transport of material across it. |
