Enzymes are synthesized within a cell to function there or are secreted
to the exterior through active transport processes, whereas hormones are
released directly into the blood stream and are distributed throughout
the body where they exert their effects upon a number of different
target tissues.
Moreover, enzymes are generally highly specific,
catalyzing a single type of reaction, whereas hormones have a range of
effects.
Hormones maintain their levels through negative
feedback, whereas it is not so with enzymes.
