When going outdoors in mornings of winter season, we generally dress in dark colours. The dark colour absorbs the heat much more than light coloured clothes and as a result we feel warm.
Instead of wearing a single thick jacket, we prefer to dress in layers since the air gets trapped between two layers of warm clothes. Air acts as insulator of heat. This layer prevents our body heat to escape in the surroundings. More layers of thin clothes will allow more air to get trapped and as a result we will not feel cold.
Woollen cloths have free spaces in between them which is occupied by air. The air again acts as a poor conductor and doesn't allow our body heat to escape.
