The Election Commission of India ​is a three-member body consisting of one Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners. They are appointed by the President.
Functions of the Election Commission of India:
  • It prepares the electoral roll and rolls out the Voter ID cards to the new voters.​
  • It directs, controls, and supervises ​the entire process of election.​
  • It is responsible for the registration of political parties and allotment of unique symbols​.
  • It has the power to cancel or postpone the elections if ​malpractices are detected.
