Solution

Instructions: The answer to this question can be given by writing and comparing the land revenue policies during the pre-British era and during British rule. Also the consequences of the land revenue policy must be mentioned.

Solution: The British came up with stringent land reform policies. Earlier, during the pre British period, the village economic condition was well and good.Land revenue formed the major part of the income of the state.Taxes were collected in the form of grains.
The revenue to be collected was decided on the type of the cultivated crop.In case of crop loss, the farmers were exempted from taxation and in no case were their land confiscated. But during British rule, things changed.Land was now assessed before deciding the tax. The tax was fixed as per the area of the land and was collected in the form of cash. In case of non-payment of taxes, the land got confiscated by the company. This new land revenue system created an imbalance in the economic condition of our country. It even made the farmers bankrupt.
