  1. Geographical location and availability of resources.
  2. Source of revenue.
  3. Powerful rulers.
Solution:
  • There were many circumstances responsible for the formation of the first empire in India with Magadha as its centre. They are as follows:
  • Magadha was located in the highly fertile area of the Gangetic basin, which resulted in good agricultural produce. Due to high agricultural productivity, land revenue was high, and it served as the major source of income for the kingdom.
  • Due to the thick forest cover around the region, the kingdom received the supply of timber and elephants. Timber was used for construction purposes and elephants were used in the army.
  • The area had large deposits of iron ore that helped in making weapons.
  • Magadha had good trade relations with other regions. Profits from trade and land revenue helped in maintaining a large army.
  • Magadha witnessed the rule of powerful rulers who further expanded the kingdom.
