Discuss the role of hybridisation in crop improvement

Hybridization refers to crossing between two genetically dissimilar plants. It may be inter varietal, inter specific and inter generic. Two plants of desired characters are selected and crossed to obtain a new plant having desired characters of parental plants. Hybridization improves crop varieties with respect to yield, disease resistance, pest resistance etc.
