The rich glossy colours and texture of silk, made it a highly valued fabric. Raw silk had to be extracted from the cocoons of silk worms. Techniques were first invented in China around 7000 years ago. These remained secret for Centuries.
Due to trade to distance lands, the route was known as ‘Silk route’.
Silk was given as gifts to rulers of Iran and west Asia by the Chinese rulers.
