The arrangement of ovules on the placenta in the ovary is called the placentation.
a) Marginal placentation: The placenta forms the ridge along the ventral suture and the ovules are borne on this suture in two rows. For example, Leguminosae.
b) Axile placentation: Ovary is multilocular and the placenta appears on the central axis. For example, Solanaceae.
c) Parietal placentation: Seen with syncarpous pistil and unilocular ovary. Ovules are arranged on the peripheral fused margins. For example, Brassicaceae.
d) Free central placentation: Seen in unilocular ovary. The ovules are borne on the central axis which is not connected with the ovary by any septum. For example, Caryophyllaceae.
e) Basal: There is a single ovule at the base of the ovary. For example, Asteraceae.
