Solution

(i) After fertilization, the zygotic meiosis occurs and forms haploid organisms. This type of life cycle is called haplontic life cycle. The haplontic life forms produce the gametes through mitosis. Such cell divisions occur in lower plants like algae and fungi and insects like bees, wasps and ants.
(ii) The phenomenon of polyploidy can be observed in some haploid cells in higher plants in which cell division does not occur. Polyploidy is a state in which the cells contain multiple pair of chromosomes than the basic set. Polypoloidy van be artificially induced by applying colichine to cell culture.
(iii) A diploid cell is a cell that contains two sets of chromosomes. Diploid cells reproduces by the process of mitosis. It replicates and preserves the diploid chromosome number by making identical copies and distributing them equally between the daughter cells. Animals like frog, humans, and mosquitoes have diploid cells where cell division does not occur.
