Ethanol can be oxidized to acetaldehyde which contains CH3CO group. Hence, it gives a positive iodoform test in which yellow ppt of iodoform is obtained.

Methanol can be oxidized to formaldehyde which does not contain CH3CO group. Hence, it does not give a positive iodoform test.
