Dissolution of all gases in water is accompanied by evolution of heat. Thus dissolution of a gas in water is an exothermic process. Heat is evolved, partly in consequence of the chemical combination and partly from the condensation of the gas to the liquid state. As the dissolution of a gas in water is an exothermic process, with increase in the temperature, the solubility of a gas in water decreases.
