Question

Do Humans Go Through Alcoholic Fermentation?

Open in App
Solution

Alcoholic Fermentation: Alcohol fermentation commonly known as ethanol fermentation, is a yeast-mediated anaerobic route that converts simple sugars to ethanol and carbon dioxide.

  1. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in human muscle cells.
  2. The primary goal of alcohol fermentation is to generate ATP, the cell's energy currency, under anaerobic conditions.
  3. The fermentation of alcohol can be separated into two stages. the yeast first degrades glucose to produce two pyruvate molecules. this is referred to as glycolysis.
The two pyruvate molecules are transformed into two carbon dioxide molecules and two ethanol molecules in the second step.
  4. The conversion of glucose to pyruvate results in the production of 2 ATP.
  5. Humans are unable to manufacture alcohol in their bodies.
  6. Lactic acid fermentation in humans occurs when the body requires a large amount of energy in a short period of time.
  7. Even though the human cell is incapable of alcoholic fermentation, we employ it for a variety of purposes.

So, Humans do not go through alcoholic fermentation.
