Question

Do internal forces affect the motion of a system acted upon by some external force?

Open in App
Solution

Internal forces affect the motion of a system because each and every particles of the system can accelerate and their momentum also changes.

But the acceleration of center of mass is due to only external forces acting on a system of particles and hence internal forces do not have any contribution in the acceleration of center of mass.
