Q). What will happen if R.B.C., or a guard cell is placed in
(a) hypotonic solution
(b) hypertonic solution

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

a)In a hypotonic solution RBC will absorb water by endosmosis and swell up. If the duration is long then the uptake of water may be so much that the cell may burst as well.
b) In a hypertonic solution, RBC's will lose water, hence crenation will appear on the surface and shape of the cell gets reduced as it gets shrinked.
