Question

Do oogenesis and spermatogenesis both continue throughout the human lifespan?

Solution

Oogenesis and Spermatogenesis:

Spermatogenesis and oogenesis are the processes of formation of male and female gametes.

  1. While oogenesis aids in the development of ova, spermatogenesis results in the production of sperm.
  2. A zygote is created when sperm and ova are fertilized, and this zygote then grows into an embryo.
  3. Whereas spermatogenesis continues throughout a man's life.
  4. Due to hormonal changes that further prohibit the menstrual cycle from continuing, oogenesis only lasts until menopause.

Hence, Oogenesis and spermatogenesis do not continue throughout the human lifespan.
