Interdependence of plants and animals on their surroundings:

1. All living organisms, whether plants or animals, need to associate with the environment to survive.
2. The surroundings of plants and animals comprise both living and non-living constituents.
3. Together the plant and animal kingdom form the biosphere or the living world.
4. All the animals and plants rely upon their immediate surroundings, generally, they are also interdependent.
5. The animals exhale carbon dioxide and inhale oxygen, the carbon dioxide exhaled by the animals is taken in by the plants and they release oxygen back into the atmosphere, which is taken up by the animals.
6. Animals are dependent on plants for shelter and food, while plants are dependent on animals for pollination and seed dispersal.
7. The plants filter water and make it clean, and animals require clean water for drinking purposes.
8. This association between the living species as well as the association between the organisms and their surroundings make an ecosystem.
9. In every ecosystem, a perfect balance is maintained, while transferring energy and matter between the distinct constituents, known as ecological balance.
