Question

Does diffused reflection mean the failure of the laws of reflection? [3 marks]

Open in App
Solution

When all the parallel light rays which are incident on a rough surface become non-parallel after getting reflected, the reflection is known as diffused or irregular reflection. [1 mark]
The diffused reflection is not due to the failure of the laws of reflection. It is caused by the irregularities in the reflecting surface. [1 mark]

The laws of reflection are followed in all kinds of reflections.
Thus, the respective angle of incidence will be equal to the angle of reflection for each and every incident ray falling on the surface.
Here, i1 = r1;
i2 = r2 ; and
i3 = r3 [1 mark]
