Only those alcohols which upon oxidation give an aldehyde with a $" C H_{3} "$ group attached to CHO group will give iodoform test.
Oxidation of propanone
$C H_{3} C H_{2} C H_{2} O H \to C H_{3} C H_{2} C H O$ (not $C H_{3}$ attached to CHO, so no iodoform test will be given)
(propanoic acid upon oxidation only gives $C O_{2}$ and $H_{2} O)$
