Question

Does stress depend on Young's modulus?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Hooke's Law states that stress is directly proportional to the strain within the elastic limit.
  2. A higher Young’s modulus will reduce the strain induced in the material, and hence the stress remains more or less the same.

Hence, no stress does not depend on Young’s modulus in the elastic region.
