Solution
Transpiration is the evaporative loss of water by plants. It occurs mainly through the stomata in the leaves. Besides the loss of water vapor in transpiration, exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the leaf also occurs through pores called stomata.
Transpiration serves any useful function in plants in the following way:
(i) It helps to enhance the absorption of water and dissolved minerals by the creation of a suction pull.
(ii) It helps in getting rid of the excess water.
(iii) It helps in the transport of water and minerals to leaves and leaves that use the water for photosynthesis.
