The elimination occurs by an E2 mechanism.
E2 machanism is β dehydrogenation.
It is a concerted one-step process.
Halide ion is eliminated from α carbon.
Hydrogen ion is eliminated from β carbon.
The base abstracts the hydrogen, the e pair is shifted to adjacent carbon forming a double bond and chloride ion is eliminated.
