Solution
The correct option is A ii and iii
Allergy or hypersensitivity is the heightened immunological response that is manifested by the body against certain antigens which are specifically called allergens.
Upon exposure to allergens, the sensitised person produces hypersensitive reactions by release of histamine from mast cells and the production of IgE antibodies from B lymphocytes.
Histamine results in dilation of arteries to increase blood flow to the affected area.
Allergic reactions often result in -
● Rashes all over the body.
● Runny nose and watery eyes.
● Swelling of face and tongue.
● Laboured breathing due to choking of throat as the tissue around mouth and tongue swell up.
● Drop in blood pressure due to dilation of arteries.
● Rapid heartbeat.
Drugs to reduce allergic symptoms:-
Antihistaminic drugs, steroids and adrenaline are the drugs that are administered to reduce the intensity of allergic symptoms.
Interferons are administered to treat viral infections.
