Edward and Newton were happy that the know so much about the humus and its importance. Newton now said that I have seen that soils in different places have different color or texture. Edward told Newton that there are different types of soil that are found on earth. Newton then asked that what are the different types of soil?
Edward then made a list of the types of soil in a column on the basis of proportion of particles of various sizes and in another column, he mentioned the characteristics of different types of soil. The columns are as follows:
But he was unable to decide the exact characteristic of each type of soil and match the two columns.
What according to you is the correct match for the above columns.
(a)-(iii),(b)-(i), (c)-(ii)
Soil is classified on the basis of the proportion of particles of various sizes. If soil contains greater proportion of big particles it is called sandy soil. If the proportion of fine particles is relatively higher, then it is called clayey soil. If the amount of large and fine particles is about the same, then the soil is called loamy. Thus, the soil can be classified as sandy, clayey and loamy.
