Question

effect of burning fossil fuel and their impact on producing greenhouse gases and acid rain

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Effects of burning fossil fuel are:-

1. It cause pollution, burning of fossil fuel release a large amount of harmful gases like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, which are the main cause of global warming.

2. Fossil fuels are non-renewable, excessive burning of these cause there depletion that cannot be refilled.

3. Extraction of fossil fuel is very difficult and dangerous, that also cause health hazards.

The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum releases greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere. These green house gases cause green house effect. Green house effects is the phenomenon in which heat radiated from the warmed earth’s surface is absorbed by green house gases present in the atmosphere. This trapping of heat increases earth’s average temperature and resulted in the phenomenon known as global warming.
Air pollution from burning of fossil fuels is the major cause of acid rain. The main chemicals in air pollution that create acid rain are sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen (NOx). Its impact on lakes, streams, wetlands, and other aquatic environments. Acid rain makes waters acidic, and causes them to absorb the aluminium that makes its way from soil into lakes and streams. This combination makes waters toxic to crayfish, clams, fish, and other aquatic animals.
