Question

Eight solid mettalic spheres of diameter 4cm are melted to form a bigger sphere . Find the radius of the bigger sphere.

Open in App
Solution

When a solid or solid are melted to form a single solid the volume remains the same.
Volume of eight metallic spheres = Volume of the single bigger sphere
8[4/3.pi.(2)3] = 4/3.pi.(r)3 ......let r be the radius of the bigger sphere
8 .4/3.pi .8.3/4.1/pi = (r)3 ...Transferring everything except r to the left hand side
r3 = 64
r = 4
Therefore radius of the bigger sphere is 4 cm.

Hope this helps..
