  • Infant mortality rate or IMR indicates the number of deaths of children below one year of age for every 1,000 live births. In 1950, on an average, 189 infants died per 1,000 live births.
  • Birth rate is the number of babies born for every 1,000 people during a particular period of time.
  • Death rate is the number of deaths per 1,000 people during a particular period of time.
