Electrolysis of aq. CH3COONa gives (B) at anode. (B) when heated with Cl2 at 4000C gives (C). (C) when reacts with excess of alcoholic NH3 gives (D). The final product (D) is:

The electrolysis of aq. sodium acetate gives ethane at anode. On heating with chlorine at 400oC, ethyl chloride is obtained. Treatment with alc. ammonia (excess) gives tetraethyl ammonium chloride.
