Question

Eliminate θ from the following equations:
x=a(secθ+tanθ),y=a(secθtanθ).

Open in App
Solution

We have,

x=a(secθ+tanθ) ……. (1)

y=b(secθtanθ) ……. (2)

From equation (1) and (2), we get

xy=ab(secθ+tanθ)(secθtanθ)

xy=ab(sec2θtan2θ)

We know that

sec2θtan2θ=1

Therefore,

xy=ab×1

xy=ab

Hence, this is the answer.
