Effects of oxidation reduction in everyday life:
a) Combustion reaction- Combustion means burning. Whenever a compound is burnt in air it gets oxidised. C + O →CO
b) Tarnishing of silver metal- Silver metal upon oxidation forms a surface of silver oxide and tarnishing occurs. Hence silver metals needs to be polished regularly.
c) Corrosion- Iron in presence of air and moisture gets oxidised and form iron oxide which results in formation of dark brown corrosion on iron metal. 4Fe + 3O →2Fe O
d) Rancidity - Spoiling food due to oxidation.
e) Batteries- Whether in automobiles or simple appliances at home, the batteries used are based on oxidation reduction reaction taking place generating electric power
