Question

Expand (x+1x)2 using appropriate identity

Open in App
Solution

Using the identity: (a+b)2=a2+b2+2ab.

Given:(x+1x)2 and apply the above identity by taking a=x and b=1x in the given identity.
We get, (x+1x)2=x2+(1x)2+(2×x×1x)=x2+1x2+2

Hence, (x+1x)2=x2+2+1x2.
