ORS:

It is an acronym for Oral Rehydration Solution.

1. It is given as a rehydration therapy for replacing the loss of hydration due to fatigue and disease that causes dehydration.
2. It involves a solution containing glucose, and salt, especially containing sodium and potassium since they form the major component of our cytoplasm and extracellular fluid environment.
3. ORS is administered intravenously in severely dehydrated patients who are unable to use the oral route for ORS intake.
