ORS:
It is an acronym for Oral Rehydration Solution.
- It is given as a rehydration therapy for replacing the loss of hydration due to fatigue and disease that causes dehydration.
- It involves a solution containing glucose, and salt, especially containing sodium and potassium since they form the major component of our cytoplasm and extracellular fluid environment.
- ORS is administered intravenously in severely dehydrated patients who are unable to use the oral route for ORS intake.
