Solution

Instruction :
  1. This question is given for 5 marks therefore the answer should have at least least 8-9 points.
  2. Explain how both the sides had different economic structure
Solution :
Economic Conditions:
  • The Northern states were technologically advanced compared to the southern states and the economy of these Northern states was dependent upon industries.
  • Therefore the Northern states wanted to generate more profit by
    • Increasing the sales of their own goods
    • Eliminating their competition.
  • For doing so the northern states came up with the idea of imposing taxes on the goods that were imported to America. By doing so the prices of the foreign goods will hike and therefore people would resort to the cheaper products that were produced in America itself.
  • The Northern states wanted to impose taxes but the Southern states were on the opposite end of the spectrum. The Southern states were primarily dependent on agriculture and were far away from the technological advancements that were introduced in the North.
  • The Southern states used to produce cotton that was supplied to the Northern states of America and also exported to England and in return the southern states used to get finished goods from England at a low cost.
  • But imposing taxes on the imported goods would increase the price of the finished goods that were being imported to the Southern states. As a result, the Southern states did not want the taxes to be imposed.
