  • After Abraham Lincoln became the president of the United States, he declared that he would abolish slavery from the free states of America.
  • The Confederate states were displeased and launched an attack on Fort Sumter that was under the control of the Federal government.
  • Lincoln retaliated and dispatched 75,000 volunteers and also ordered them to take control over the ports used by the Confederate states.
  • In the month of september 1862, Abraham Lincoln passed the emancipation proclamation.
  • As per the Emancipation Proclamation, the slaves in the states that would keep rebelling after 1st of Janaury 1863 will be considered free and the master of these slaves will loose their right.
  • Another important event that took place during the American Civil war was the Battle of Gettysburg that was fought during the month of July 1863.
  • The war went for three days and after 50,000 casualties the battle finally resulted in the favour of the Federal government.
  • After a duration of four years the American Civil War came to an end after the surrender of General Lee in 1865.
