1. Blue vitriol is CuSO​4. It is an inorganic compound which has blue color due to water of crystallisation. Thus, originally blue vitriol is CuSO4.5H2O.

2. It's effects are:

(a) It is an antiseptic agent.
(b) It is used in electroplating process.
(c) Anti-fungal for tropical use.
(d) Treatment of copper deficiency.

3. Some other types of vitriols are:

(a) Black vitriol is Ferrous Sulphate and iron sulphide.
(b) Green vitriol is Ferrous Sulphate heptahydrate.
(c) Red vitriol is Cobalt Sulphate heptahydrate.
