Explain different steps in the process of animal nutrition.

Animal nutrition: Animals can obtain nutrition in three different ways, i.e. herbivore, carnivore and omnivore.

Herbivore: Animals that consume plants for their nutrition needs.

Carnivore: Animals that consume other animals for their nutrition needs.

Omnivore: Animals that consume both animals and plants for their nutrition needs.

The steps in animal nutrition:

1. The steps for obtaining nutrition remain almost the same for all three types.
2. It begins with the ingestion of food.
3. Thereafter the food enters the process of digestion in which the complex food items are broken down into simpler forms by the action of various enzymes in the alimentary canal.
4. Once the food is digested it gets absorbed into the bloodstream via the villi in the small intestine and this process is called absorption.
5. And blood transports the digested food to all parts of the body for the release of energy. which is known as assimilation.
