Question

Explain dipole-dipole interaction with the help of example

Open in App
Solution

In polar covalent molecules, two poles exist (partially positively charged atom and partially negatively charged atom) due to difference in the electronegativity of the two atoms. These are known as dipoles (two poles). Now, when two dipoles come close to each other, they interact with the polarised electronic cloud of each other. This interaction is known as dipole-dipole interaction.
