Ovary: In human females, paired ovaries are located in the abdominal cavity near the kidney. The ovaries perform the dual function of (i) Production of a female gamete(ovum) and (ii) secretion of female hormones (oestrogen and progesterone). Each ovary is composed of ovarian follicles. At puberty, these follicles undergo maturation to produce ova.
Fallopian tubes: Near the posterior end of the ovary, a funnel-like structure leads into a long convoluted tube called fallopian tube.
Uterus: The fallopian tubes from both sides open into a muscular structure, the uterus, which is also known as the womb. Uterus opens into the vagina.
Vagina: Vagina is a tubular structure. It is also called 'birth canal' because through this canal, the young one is born after completion of development inside the uterus. In females, urinary opening(urethra) and vaginal openings are separate.
