Question

Explain how deforestation leads to reduced rainfall.

Open in App
Solution

Plants and water bodies are the sources of most of the moisture and water vapour that constitutes the clouds that bring rain. Forests act as large transpiration zones and contribute greatly to atmospheric moisture.
In their absence, the accumulation of water vapour reduces significantly and therefore, resulting in reduced rainfall.
