Fuel is a substance that undergoes a combustion reaction, producing energy in the process. This energy is usually in the form of heat or light. This energy is then utilized for various purposes like, rotating a turbine, driving a vehicle, etc.
Plants combine carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight to manufacture food in the form of glucose and sugar. When animals consume this food, they get digested inside the body. During the digestion process, food is burnt in the presence of oxygen to release energy which is utilized to carry out day-to-day activities.
Thus, food is a fuel for animals and plants.
